![]() Apparently the software appended some metadata to the individual music files without notice. The rollout hasn't been the smoothest but at least two updates have been issued already. ![]() Whereas a number of things have changed with the software, other things stay the same - the remote will show up when it's good and ready. Still waiting on the release of the new remote app, halfway through the trial. The TCO has gone up, so I'd like a return on that. The change to a subscription model is significant, and I'm hoping that a stable cash flow ensues, allowing them to develop more consistently and offer a better product as a result. Their website indicated the new Remote to be released within this initial trial period. So far the software is mostly working well, I just need to be able to interact with it easily. The performance and functionality of the Remote app will go a long way to making me a satisfied user. I'm really enjoying not having a traditional computer in the room and using a UPnP endpoint in the form of Raspberry Pi/Moode. For me this is going to be an important piece, since my install is running headless and I connect from either an Android phone or ChromeOS. The older version of the Remote app won't connect to A-Studio (my abbreviation for Audirvana Studio - getting tired of spelling all that). Lastly, the new Remote app is not out yet, as noted above. It's still early days yet, but I am keen on the Kernel Streaming feature. It may benefit these styles, but that remains to be seen. In general the bulk of what I listen to is acoustic - jazz or classical. This option did make a difference, a positive one for me, and I'm still soaking it in. There's ASIO as well, but the new feature for Windows 10 is the Kernel Streaming option. Looking more at the settings, this was with a WASAPI output, and I had thought this just affected locally connected DAC's. To me it was just different though, and I hadn't decided whether I liked it better or not. I initially started playing familiar items, and it did sound different than 3.5. There is an easy way to enter a new URL, but the initial reports I've seen indicate those added URLs aren't saved. If you want to explore you can select another country and see what is available. They do have selections of stations by genre which is handy, but most of all is being able to sort by location is an interesting feature. Selecting a different station seems to start it playing again. The radio functions work, but sometimes I encounter white noise when restarting a stream. That sort of info I would hope is in the metadata that comes with the Tidal stream. This was something I was hoping for, as during times I want to listen to Jazz or Classical I'd like to list just those genres. Unless it's something I've missed, I cant seem to filter Tidal favourites. So far there's some hits and misses IMO with the way the app operates. ![]() More tomorrow if there's no show-stopper bugs. I don't know if some of these features are already present on other players, but the improvements in sorting and managing playlists are welcome. I'd imagine HD is interchangeable with our use of the term hi-res, and it does an analysis of the audio and seems to indicate if the track is really hi-res or just upsampled redbook. I hope this extends to things like Tidal favourites (please please please). This time I could see some of what's in store with the new design and it has me encouraged.Įnhanced sorting. Maybe that's what was playing in the background during the announcement last weekend, I had glimpsed some things but wasn't sure. At that location when I scrolled to the bottom a video autoplayed and it was showing some of the new UI features. So as I wait in anticipation for the release, I went back to the Audirvana site /studio and looked around again.
